The Virgin Mary of Oikonomou

It is a monument of the 15th century, located in the district of Economou. The original building, smaller in size, took its final shape in the early 17th century, when it was decorated inside the nave. Around the monument, there was a large courtyard, which was demolished to built a huge building that now covers the monument. it one of the few churches where the painting is preserved in good condition. The iconographic program evolves into three zones. The first includes saints, the second saints in medallions and the third scenes of the Twelve Feats and the festive cycle of the Virgin. On the southeast corner of the sanctuary a part of the earliest paintings of the 15th century is preserved. The temple has retained its old pictures, of which St. John the Baptist is over- painted.
